Welcome to a new school year in Scoil Mhuire! We would like to wish all our students the very best for the year ahead. We also extend a Good Luck to those who have moved on to the next chapter in their lives, especially last year’s Leaving Cert class. We hope you will have fond memories of Scoil Mhuire and will be successful in your chosen path.

For all our students, past and present, remember

doubt has killed more dreams than failure ever will

Believe in yourselves and always strive to achieve your best.

Head Girl  – Lisa Conneely

I would like to begin by saying a big hello and welcome to this years first years, you may feel as if you’ll be there forever but trust me the time flies.  Your school bags may be as big as yourselves but let me assure you they don’t get any lighter.

First year may seem overwhelming, but the greatest advice I can give you is to be open to new experiences, making new friends and stepping out of your comfort zone.

“An expert in anything was once a beginner and we’ve all been beginners at Scoil Mhuire”.

Second Years; it’s not long since you were in first year and you haven’t quite hit the big JC yet but let me tell you, a small amount of effort regularly will get you far.  Get involved!. Give the musical your best shot or join the football team. I can assure you Ms Torpey would be delighted to see new faces.

To all the third years, studying is advisable and when all else fails look to Ms O’Brien’s wall for inspiration.  “All you can do is your best so try your best”.

Transition Years; this could be your best year at Scoil Mhuire but only if you take part in everything, work a little, laugh a lot and enjoy yourselves.

In Fifth Year, the best thing to do is learn your Sraiths, stick together and sooner than expected your front row debut will be upon you.

And now, I would like to say a huge welcome to the most important front row of the century.  We may have began as shy first years, bright eyed and bushy-tailed with long skirts and bows in our hair, but I can assure you, we certainly are not as shy anymore.

Our journey together has taken us from King John’s Castle to Barcelona, our stomachs sore from laughing, Le Planning not quite working out as planned and business becoming thirsty work.

The phone ban may have hit us hard at first but the buzzing in the central area, from laughter instead of phones, is greater than ever before.

Where we say our Hellos we must also bid our farewells to the Leaving Cert Class of 2018 as well as our wonderful teachers Mr Quinn and Ms Ní Chléirigh.

Mr Quinn’s unique humour and tolerance will be missed on a Monday morning but I will say that his tug-of-war expertise and his presence at the student Council meetings most certainly will not be forgotten. He has left big shoes to fill.

The enthusiasm and positivity that Ms Ní Chléirigh brought to our school was beyond compare. Nuair a bímid ag siúl gach seachtain leis an gclub siúlóida beimid ag smaoineamh ort.

It is evident that Scoil Mhuire will help you to develop academically but where it also succeeds is in creating well-rounded, ambitious young women!.

This is a real testament to the dedication of our wonderful teachers, as well as the hard work and commitment of all our girls.

As your Head Girl, I will try my very best to help you in any way that I can along this journey and remember “Be Somebody that makes everybody feel like a somebody”.

Good Luck! Enjoy! And Have Fun!
